Collectively, we spent almost three weeks in Brisbane and we fell in love with this family-friendly city. Granted some of that was over Christmas, which is full of summer life (remember oppposite seasons in the Southern Hemisphere), but overall there was so much to do and see!

South Bank Parklands

The best swimming and people-watching around! It also had great cityscape views along the river. It’s truly the best of all worlds! We also saw the  musical Mamma Mia! at the South Bank theater. There’s a bazillion restaurants  around there too! We also took their free ferries along the Brisbane River to get around the city area and see some sites. It also stops at the park so this is where we could get off.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

We did a field trip day to the Sanctuary for E’s 8th birthday! It was a super chill, non-crowded park that included all sorts of Aussie animals. Many of which you could interact and feed. We also splurged and did the koala holding experience for his birthday gift. We had a great time and it was well worth the $$.

Woorim Beach on Birbie Island

This beach is about an hour drive from where we were housesitting in Brisbane. We were invited by some friends spend the day there and it was such a delightful experience. Way different than our Californian beach experiences. In Australia, 98% of the populations lives within driving distance to the beach. The beaches here have free parking lots that do not fill up. Because so many of their coastline is flat with accessible beaches.

At Woorim, we simply drove to the beach, found a parking spot in the lot, used the clean bathrooms, and then walked a few minutes to the beach entrance and plopped ourselves down. Super easy. Super stress free. Super AWESOME!

PRO TIP: Do bring loads of sunscreen. Better yet, those UV shirts because the likelihood of sunburn is real. You can burn up in minutes of being out in the sun!

We would definitely love to housesit in Brisbane again during the summer months! We made some great friends and love the area so much!
